CMS Dress Code Policy

Appropriate dress for students in the elementary panel of the York Catholic District School Board means that students will be dressed in clothes that are neat and clean. Clothing should reflect the increasing physical maturity of the  students. For more information, please visit (Board Dress Code Policy see www.ycdsb.ca). The dress code is as follows:

Shorts, Skirts and Dresses
Shorts, skirts and dresses must be long enough to reach the end of your extended fingertips when your arms are at your side.
Tights or leggings may be worn at school as long as they are covered by shorts, a blouse or shirt (as in item 1 above).
Shorts, skirts and dresses must not have tears and wear that exposes the body or underwear.
Pants
Pants or shorts must cover underwear and must not have tears and wear that expose body or underwear.
Shirts and Tops
Halter tops, tank tops, spaghetti strap tops (narrower in width than 3 fingers) or tube tops, half-shirts, tops with cut-outs, tops made of mesh or netting type material low necklines, front or back are not a part of the dress code.
Shirts and tops must be long enough so no mid-drift is showing and not loosely fitting so that they fall off the shoulder.
Students must not have inappropriate or derogatory statements, language and/or representation (pictures) on attire that indicates gang affiliation and/or depicts violence, profanity or discrimination of any kind whatsoever or that otherwise demeans an identifiable individual or group.
Hats
Hats are removed upon entry to the school.
Hats may not have inappropriate or derogatory statements, language and/or representation (see shirts and tops section).
Footwear
Students must have an extra pair of shoes to be worn inside and they need running shoes for the gym (one set of running shoes will cover both purposes).
Students must not wear flip-flop sandals in the yard for play, because they come off too easily and result in many injuries in the school yard. It is safer to wear sandals with a strap around the back of the heel so that they will not come off easily causing falls and injuries.

Accessories                                                                                                                       Accessories not in keeping with the spirit of the Dress Code as determined by the school.
Please note:  Administration is permitted to exercise discretion to allow exceptions to the Dress Code or exceptions regarding compliance. Students who fail to comply with the dress code will be asked to call home for a change of clothing and if that is not possible will be asked to wear the extra T-shirts or track pants we have in the office or to remain in the office for the day.
